BRUNEI were knocked out of the ASEAN Mitsubishi Electric Cup 2024 after a 0-0 stalemate against Timor Leste in the second leg of the qualifiers on Tuesday.
The Timorese advance on a 1-0 aggregate victory after Paulo Domingos Gali Da Dosta Fesitas’ goal in the first leg separated the two sides at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas in the first leg.
Despite facing a deficit, the Wasps only managed four shots in the game with only one on target coming at the end at the Chonburi Stadium in Thailand.
Substitute Shafie Efenddy only had Timor Leste custodian Junildo Manuel De Castro Pereira to beat but scuffed his shot.
On the other hand, Timor Leste managed a total of 19 attempts at goal with three on target.
They also had nine corners in the match as opposed to Brunei with none.
Timor Leste is now set to make their fourth appearance in the group stage since the 2020 edition having been dumped out by Brunei 6-3 on aggregate two years ago.
They will join seven-time champions Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Cambodia In Group A.
Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines and Vietnam make up Group B in the competition will be held from December 8 to January 5 next year.
