Brunei junior Wushu team deliver strong performance

BRUNEI produced a successful showing in front of the home crowd at the 9th World Junior Wushu Championships after a haul of three gold, three silver and two bronze medals.

The result sees the Sultanate place eighth overall in the standings of the September 25-29 competition.

Walid Lachkar was the top performer for the Sultanate with one gold and one silver medals at the Indoor Stadium of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas.

He finished top of the podium in the boy's daoshu A event on Friday with a score of 9.186 points, edging Malaysia's Wong Jie Ann by 0.03 points.

His silver was from the boy's changquan A event with his score of 9.220 points on Wednesday.

"I just want to say a big thanks to everyone who helped and supported me," said Walid in an interview with BruSports News.

"I'm proud of my teammates and now look forward to the 3rd Taolu World Cup next month (October)," he added.

The other gold medals were courtesy of Meagan Marie Keasberry and Samuel Ong Yong Jun.

They won the girl's and boy's taijiquan C events respectively.

Lim Wan Xin clinched silver in the girl's nandao B event on Friday after tallying 8.850 points.

The other silver was won by Chu Ching Hwa in the boy's taijiquan A event as he was just 0.02 points away from eventual winner Agni Augustine Dimonim of Indonesia.

Abel Lim Wee Yuen grabbed bronze in the boy's nandao A event while Lim Yee Sean completed Brunei's haul after finishing third in the girl's taijijian A event on Saturday.

China were the overall winners with 13 gold, four silver and two bronze followed by Indonesia with 10 gold, 10 silver and nine bronze.
