Brunei Karatekas rake in two silver and one bronze

THE Brunei karatedo team will return with two silver and one bronze medals from SUKMA XXI.

Farhah Syahirah Mohamad Shamrin won the first silver medal in the women’s individual Kata event on Saturday after posting 38.6 points.

She was 0.6 points behind eventual winner Lovelly Anne Robberth of Sabah in the final at the National Youth Skills Institute in Miri, Sarawak.

"I've given everything from the preliminaries to the final, and I'm proud of my performance," said Farhah Syahirah when contacted by BruSports News.

"While my goal was to secure the gold, I trust that this journey is part of a bigger plan for me.

"I'm left with no regrets and will work even harder," she added.

"Thank you to everyone who has been supportive of me, especially my family and my coaches.

"I am also so proud of the team for getting another silver and a bronze," she continued.

The second silver was courtesy of Awangku Ahmad Munib Aiman Pengiran Haji Hasimudin in the men’s 55kg individual Kumite event.

He won three matches before falling 7-1 to Federal Territory's Danesh Asyrraf Muhammad Nazri in the gold medal match.

Meanwhile, the trio of Farhin Idlan Mohamad Shamrin, Muhammad Iqbal Asnan, and Muhammad Syahmi Zaffran Bakar captured bronze in the men's team Kata event on Sunday.

They tallied 38.30 points to defeat Perak in the repechage to finish on the podium.

Brunei sent a total of eight athletes to contest in karatedo.
