Wira Pori go back-to-back in Brunei 3×3 Tournament

JEREMY Chu hit a two-pointer with five seconds left to lift Wira Pori to a 20-18 victory over Blank to win Circuit 2 of the Brunei 3x3 Tournament on Sunday.

Jaron On faked on his attempt before dishing to the side for Chu to hit a straight on two at the Tutong Chung Hwa Basketball Court.

Lim Liang Wei had a chance to go for the tie but his attempt fell short allowing Wira Pori to go back-to-back having won Circuit 1 last month.

Jonathan Lim scored a game-high of 10 points to pace Wira Pori while Chu finished with six.

On the other hand, Kelvin Chai topscored for Blank with nine points.

Blank got off to a strong start for the first four points of the final.

They led most of the way but the match was tied at 11-11 after a two-pointer by Chu with over four minutes left in regulation.

Wira Pori went in front for the first time after Jonathan connected from behind the arc to make it 13-12 with under three minutes to go.

Blank then scored five unanswered points to open up a four-point gap with a minute to play.

Jonathan knocked down a freethrow before On dropped a two-pointer to cut the deficit.

Chai made a basket to keep Blank ahead before Jonathan knocked down another two-pointer to tie the game with 20 seconds left before the nail-biting finish.

Bungan ah Soon claimed third place after edging Airballers 19-17 in overtime.

Over in the under-18 category, Le Doux Mango Cake also made it back-to-back wins after dispatching Evo 21-9 in the final.

It was double delight for On as he led the way for Le Doux Mango Cake with nine points.

Undergraduates claimed the bronze after beating a shorthanded BCUX 18-9 in the third-place playoff.

The winners of each category will get free passage to compete in Circuit 3, which is slated to be held in the Belait district on September 29.

Circuit 2 attracted a total of five teams in each category.
