Wasps hang on to edge Sri Lanka

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

BRUNEI won three consecutive games for the first time after hanging on to edge Sri Lanka 1-0 in a friendly match on Tuesday night.

Skipper Azwan Ali Rahman's goal in the 37th minute separated the two sides at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas.

The visitors failed to deal with a corner and a cross-shot from inside the box landed in at the far post.

Brunei were reduced to 10 men after Pg Yura Indera Putera Pg Yunos picked up two yellow cards in a span of eight minutes.

Sri Lanka piled on the pressure in front of the Brunei sticks for the last half an hour.

However, they were unable to find a way past resulting in back-to-back defeats in the Sultanate in a span of three days.

Brunei had beaten Sri Lanka by the same scoreline in their first meeting on Saturday.

Azwan also netted the only goal. He is now one goal away from tying Shahrazen Said in the all-time goalscoring chart for the Wasps.
