NATIONAL wushu athlete Basma Lachkar dedicated her history-making silver medal at the 19th Asian Games to her late mother.

The 20-year-old placed second in the women's taijiquan and taijijian all-round event at the Guali Cultural & Sports Centre on Sunday.

She had lost her mother, Hajah Rosnah binti Awg Tengah, in October last year and hopes this achievement has made her proud.

"I wish my late mother could see the woman she raised as she inspired me to be the person I am today," said Basma in an interview with BruSports News on Monday.

"No matter what, I want to continue to make her proud and I can feel in my heart that she is proud of me today," she added.

The medal success was not made overnight but a decade of work poured in.

Basma credited her coaches Li Hui and Zhao Chunjie for tirelessly working to get to where they are.

"It is an honour to win the first silver medal for my country," said Basma.

"But I didn't do it myself. My coach and I worked as a team and together we have gone through a lot to prepare for this big competition," she added.

Basma concluded by thanking everyone who has continuously supported her through the years.
