“Our target is to surpass our achievement from last year’s second place finish and we hope to achieve the gold medal after a heartbreaking loss in the final map to Kazakhstan,” said Muhd Safwan.

“Our biggest rival will be Kazakhstan and also Mongolia, who look very strong from their recent success in regional competitions.

“We will not underestimate all the other teams that managed to qualify for this World Championship as every team have their own strength.

So we just need to focus on our own game-play and advantage,” he added.

On preparations heading into the August 24th – September 3rd competition, Muhd Safwan said: “We have been training hard these few months by analyzing our own game-play and fixing our weaknesses.

“At the same time, we have been studying how the other teams are playing so that we can use it to our advantage,” he added.

ESB general secretary Hawaii Yee also chimed in that his charges have got what it takes to do well.

“We believe that our team is good enough to finish on the podium as shown last year, but the athletes need to believe in themselves and be confident of their own skills,” said Yee, who will be travelling as the team official.

They have shown dedication in their training these few months and hopefully during the competition they can make it count,” added Yee.

The other game titles that ESB will be contesting in are Tekken 7 and eFootball 2023.

They will be represented by Muhd Hafiy Mirza Hj Mohd Shafiee (Hafey) and Muhd Abdul Qawiy Wafiyuddin Hj Zulaihee (MrTanakaV2) respectively.

Muhd Hafiy Mirza is looking at improving on this top-16 finish from last year while the latter is targeting to qualify for the knockout rounds.
