HAYLEY Wong got off to a strong start to set two new national records at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Trinidad and Tobago on Sunday.
The first record came in the women's 50m butterfly event where she finished with a time of 29.31 seconds in Heat 4.
The result saw her place 14th out of 41 participants overall.
It beats her previous record of 29.63s.
Her second record was in the 200m breaststroke event where she timed 2.53.79 to place 12th out of 16 contestants.
Her performance smashed the previous time of 2.55.10.
Meanwhile, Zeke Chan was just short of setting a new best time in the men's 100m backstroke event.
He produced a time of 59.78s - just 0.17s off the record he set at the World Aquatics Championships in Japan last month.
Sharmeen Mohd Mharvin also saw action as she clocked 1:14.01 in the women's 100m backstroke.
