NEWLY appointed national basketball coach Ben Sim is looking forward to the FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup 2023 in Singapore.

This will be Brunei's debut at the competition and it will be Sim's first time in charge of the national squad.

"Technically, it's not my first stint as I brought the Under-18s to Cambodia back in 2018," said Sim in an interview with BruSports News on Sunday.

"However, I'm very excited for my first competition as an official Brunei coach.

"My expectations for the meet are to do the best we can and hopefully come away with good results," added Sim.

Brunei will be fielding the team of Jake Chong, Jayden Chen, Lim Liang Wei and William Ching - all who have been teammates with Sim before - and the duo of Kelvin Chai and Lim Yih Shyang at the March 27 - April 2 tournament.

Brunei have been drawn in Group D together with Iran, Malaysia and Hong Kong.

When asked on what he knows about the opposition, Sim replied: "We know that they are highly experienced opponents but we are confident in our abilities and preparation with the short amount of time given to us to prepare.

"I'm looking forward to seeing how our team performs and making Brunei proud," he concluded.

The tournament is in its sixth edition this year and Australia are the defending champions after making it a three-peat last year.
