BRYAN Chiew defeated 133 other golfers to emerged overall gross champion of the inaugural The Golf Nation Cup on Sunday.
He carded a total of 74 during the Saturday morning session to land the title at the Royal Brunei Golf and Country Club in Jerudong.
Chiew was delighted to finish top of the podium
"Overall I am satisfied despite struggling a bit with my game for the past few weeks with a back injury ," said Chiew in an interview with BruSports News after the victory.
"I didn't expect to win after the first day as knew some of my friends had the potential to shoot low scores.
"Course conditions were challenging with soggy grounds from the rain and windy conditions halfway through the round," he added.
"Performance was okay as I had a rough start the first few holes but happy was able to recover coming down the stretch," continued Chiew, who is looking forward to the NBT Challenge Trophy next month.
Ramle Md Don claimed the nett category on 67.
The other winners include Pg Musa (Division A), Md Arid Morni (Division B), Pg Hj Ali Hashim (Senior) and Jean Lim (Women).
Col (R) Hj Md Rashid drives home new Toyota
THE biggest winner of the competition was Col (R) Hj Md Rashid after he hit a hole-in-one to drive home a Toyota Raize.
He managed this on Sunday morning at hole 8.
When asked on the feat , he replied: "I didn't expect to get the hole-in-one. i just picked up my club and the guys at the hole were jumping up and down.
"I asked what happened and they told me I just had a hole-in-one," added Hj Md Rashid, who finished runner-up in the senior category.
