What a debut it was for Mohammad Nashrul Hj Abu Bakar at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England.
The 26-year-old set a new national record in the men's U61kg weightlifting event with a total of 227kg at the NEC Hall 1.
His previous best was 212kg which he managed at the Singapore Weightlifting International 2022 in February.
Nashrul lifted 95kg for Snatch and completed all three attempts for Clean & Jerk - 123kg, 127kg and 132kg respectively.
The result was enough to see him finish sixth in the field of nine competitors.
Malaysia's Muhammad Aznil Bidin successfully defended his gold by setting a new Games record with a tally of 285kg.
Morea Baru of Papua New Guinea secured the silver on 273 kg while India's Gururaja completed the podium a further 4kg behind.
Brunei sent a total of seven athletes to the Games this year and the other six will contest in lawn bowls.
