EASYWAY opened their title defence in the YOU.C1000 Cup with a comfortable 92-55 win over Chill in Group A on Sunday night.

The defending champions had distributed scoring across the board with five players in double figures.

Jakes Chong notched a game-high of 22 points while Ben Sim contributed 21 in the win at the BBA Court in Batu Bersurat.

Darren Hong chipped in 13 while the pair of Chris Chiew and Md Zainul Ashyraf Hj Hussin added 12 and 11 respectively.

On the other hand, J Martinez topscored for Chill with 17 points while Joey Dela Pena was the other in double figures 14 in the defeat.

The game remained closed only for the opening five minutes of the match before Easyway pulled away with a 9-0 run to end the first period to go in front 20-9.

Chill were trying to bulldoze their way through the lane but their plan simply didn’t reap rewards.

Easyway ran the floor and kept their opponents without a single field goal in the last five minutes heading into the break.

It was a 21-1 run during that period with Chong banking in a buzzer beating trey off the board to put his side up 47-20 at halftime.

Chill had no answers and were soon gassed. Easyway extended their advantage to over 40 points in the third period as they cruised to victory.

The competition continues on Monday with GHK taking on Le Doux Patisserie in the opener of the women’s category at 7pm.

The second game pits Fuzhou Shiyyi Association against TK Tea House in Group B at 8.30pm.
