WILL it be number six for Easyway Basketball?

The YOU.C1000 Cup, held in conjunction with His Majesty’s Birthday celebrations, tips off this Saturday at the BBA Court in Batu Bersurat.

The five-time winners of the competition will begin their title defence on Sunday against Chill in Group B.

Easyway captain Ben Sim is just glad to be back on the court.

“Preparations are only as good as the limited time we have had together since the Government allowed tournaments to start again followed by the announcement of this year’s YOU.C1000 Cup,” said Sim in an interview with BruSports News.

“There are great teams in this year’s competition but we have a chance to defend our title if we execute our game plan.

“We are just excited to play basketball again. We can’t wait to start,” he added.

The biggest change in their roster is the exclusion of 6’7 American Decorey Jones, who has returned to the States.

When asked on how they look to fill in that void, Sim replied: “Deco is a great player and an even better person. We can’t fill in that void.”

A total of 19 teams are vying for top honours in the June 25 – July 22 competition.

The other teams in Group A are Unity, Yi’s Nation and D’Barkad’Z.

Last year’s runners-up TK Tea House are in Group B together Fateh, Pegasus, Propel and Fuzhou Shiyyi Association.

Burger King, Patriots, Tropang FBC and Nuctech make up group C to complete the field.

The top three teams from Groups A and B will advance to the quarter-finals while only the top two in Group C will progress.

Over in the women’s category, Le Doux Patisserie, GHK and Propel Services and Trading will contest in a round robin format over two rounds.
