NINA JUNA made it back-to-back appearances in the semi-finals of the CrossFit Games after finishing 27th in the Asian region in the quarter-finals recently.
The 30-year-old completed her workouts with a total of 174 points – placing her in position 1093 in the world among over 5000 athletes.
The Games began on February 24 and workouts were posted weekly on Fridays as athletes submit their videos by Tuesdays.
Only the top-30 in the Asian region then progressed to the semi-finals, where it will no longer be virtual this year and set to be held in South Korea starting on May 20.
Nina is pleased to be the only Bruneian at this stage again this year and she hopes to better her position this time around.
“My target this year is to finish in the top 20 because I placed 22nd last year,” said Nina in an interview with BruSports News on Saturday.
“I believe I can produce a better showing since it won’t be a virtual competition this time and I want to see how much I can push myself,” added the five-time fittest woman in Brunei.
When asked on her preparations for the upcoming semis, Nina replied: “Mentally it has been difficult with the COVID-19 situation as I used to go to the gym to train where there is a big space.
“But during the lockdown, I didn’t have the space and was limited to doing gymnastics and some lifting at home.
“Sometimes you just need someone to support and I just tried keep myself motivated and kept on training,” she added.
“I have never stopped training and I know what I have to do. I will continue pushing myself and am looking forward to the competition,” concluded Nina.
