NATIONAL swimmer Muhammad Isa Ahmad swam his way to two new national short course records at the recently concluded 15th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
The Tokyo 2020 Olympian completed the 100m breaststroke with a time of 1:04.09 beating his old time of 1:04.45, which he set at the previous edition in Hangzhou, China in 2018.
He made it back-to-back records at the Etihad Arena with a time 29.32s in the 50m breaststroke event shaving 0.33s off his old time.
Muis was pleased with the results and it was something he had expected.
"I feel really good about it because it has been a tough year with competitions being last minute and training being uncertain due to lockdown," said Muis in a recent interview with BruSports News.
"It was good when I was racing in Abu Dhabi and it was amazing to be around all these swimmers and being in a pool with more than two people.
"Throughout the whole year it was mostly just Christian and I by ourselves with our coach so you forget that you come to these type of competitions and there are a lot of people.
"But rather than letting it overwhelm me, I was just really excited to be around all these fast paced swimmers," he added.
"I was expecting to get the results I wanted because essentially that is what I have worked for.
"Over the past year of racing especially with the Olympics, I have learnt how to change my mindset when it comes to approaching races.
"Before I would always be hoping that I would get results and hoping to do well. When you start to give yourself the expectations then you leave with no excuse but to get expected results and that was what I was expecting," continued the 23-year-old.
When asked on the plans for next year, Muis replied: "I am expecting to elevate training next year and adding more into training that could have benefitted me earlier on.
"Definitely expecting myself to take the opportunity to race more often and will try my best to go for more competitions regardless of them being small or large scale, in Brunei or overseas," concluded the Olympian.
