BRUNEI esports achieved a major milestone with the launching of the inaugural PUBG Mobile AMPRO Series: Season 0, the country's largest esports event to date, on Sunday.
A total of 160 teams, with a maximum of four players per team, successfully registered their place for the opening qualifying rounds of the $25,000 prize pool national league at Pusat Insani in Seria.
Present as the guest of honour to launch the event was Mariam Ulat, the acting director of the Youth and Sports Department.
Preceded by the online Registration phase earlier this month, the Team Verification Day is the second stage of the PUBG MOBILE AMPRO Series: Season 0 timeline.
The Open Qualifiers will follow on August 2-5 which will see the top-32 teams secure a spot to compete in the National League, from August 23 - Sept 30.
The final top-16 teams from the league will then advance to battle it out in the Championships.
The PUBG Mobile AMPRO (Amateur-Professional) series, which is spearheaded by CRIT esports, follows a competitive esports structure that simulates the formats of professional esports tournaments.
This allows gamers of all skill levels to participate, grow and experience the exposure and pressure endured by global esports athletes.
Progresif is an essential partner as they share the same view as CRIT for Brunei’s potential to be a regional player in the esports landscape.
Other key partners and sponsors in making this happen included Netcom Computer House, Red Bull, YOU.C1000, I Say Yatta, HOCO Agency, Massutera Engineering Sdn Bhd, Mortar Events, Lailatul Shazanas Studio, and RTB GO.

The Team Verification Day also featured various esports-related activities for everyone to watch or participate in.
That included an all female PUBG Mobile tournament and the 13th International Esports Federation (IESF) World Championship Brunei Qualifiers for Tekken 7 and the Among Us tournament.
After more than six hours of gameplay, Cherry Blossoms emerged top of the podium in the all female PUBG Mobile Tournament to walk away with the cash prize of $500.
