PROPEL held on to defeat Tutong Basketball 94-85 in Group D of the YOU.C1000 Cup on Wednesday night to keep their hopes alive on reaching the quarter-finals.
Kenny Lim produced a game-high of 21 points to lead Propel while the duo of Phang Seng Fu and Tan Kah Boon poured in 16 each at the BBA Court in Batu Bersurat.
Simon Chong contributed 15 points while Tan Ye Wei was the other in double figures with 11 to his name.
On the other side, On Chee Khong topscored for Tutong with 20 points while Jayden Chen added 17.
The pair of Onn Jen Hao and Muhd Nurhadi Mahyuddin chipped in 14 points each in the defeat.
It was a see-saw battle most of the way but it was Propel who stuck their noses in front 69-64 going into the final quarter.
They were in foul trouble and put Tutong in the penalty with less than three minutes play in the frame.
It remained mostly a two-posssession game and the turning point came with just under two minutes to play.
Lim had missed on his attempt but Phang was there for the tip in to make it 88-82.
Tutong came up empty handed and this time Lim found Phang to connect on a jumpshot to make it a three-possession match to seal the deal with 49 seconds left.
