SAMUEL Kojo Abbey (2nd L, Picture: Courtesy of Kasuka FC) has settled down well with his new club Kasuka FC.

The 23-year-old Ghanaian centre-back arrived in the Sultanate in February and put pen to paper on Saturday signing on as one of the four imports for the club for the upcoming Brunei Super League season.

“I’m excited to be here. I feel a lot of joy and it feels great to be playing here in Brunei. I understand my role and the dynamics of the team,” said Abbey in an interview with BruSports News on yesterday.

“With a positive mindset and a great sense of humour, it was really easy for me to gel with my teammates and we are one family now.

“I promise to work hard for myself and the club to reach a higher position. Hopefully I can help the club win the (Brunei Super League) championship this season,” he added.

Abbey spent his youth career playing in his native country before moving aboard to the Kitengala Shooters in Kenya in 2015.

He then transferred to JMC Hippos in the Uganda Super League before moving to Southeast Asia where he laced up for Mawyawadi FC in the Myanmar National League second tier.

His last stop was plying his trade for Dagon FC in Myanmar's top-tier competition in 2019.

Kasuka FC are set to make their AFC Cup debut when they take on Lao Premier League Champions Lao Toyota FC in the preliminary rounds on May 19.

When asked on his hopes in the AFC Cup, Abbey replied: “I have so much confidence that we will qualify from the preliminary stage to the group stage.

“From there, we take it one match at a time,” he added.

Joining Abbey as the Kasuka imports this season include Japanese goalie Shota Wada, Liberian forward Leon Sullivan Taylor and Japanese winger Shunya Ando.
