DPMM FC are set to participate in the upcoming Brunei Super League.
The Brunei side had to sit out the Singapore Premier League for the second straight season due to Brunei’s COVID-19 travel restrictions.
All sports events can be now carried out in Brunei following the implementation of Level 5 (New Normal) de-escalation plan from March 8 and the National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD) had announced that the country’s top-tier football competition is slated to begin on June 20.
“I’m really looking forward to playing in the Brunei Super League,” said DPMM FC coach Adrian Pennock in an interview with BruSports News earlier today.
“It’s been over a year since we played our last competitive game,” he added.
DPMM FC last played competitively in a 2-0 victory over Tampines Rovers FC at the Hassanal Bolkiah Stadium in Berakas on March 6 last year.
They have been busy prepping themselves since early this year and Pennock felt that his charges are ready for the challenge.
“We’ve been preparing since January 6th to play in the Singapore Premier League but obviously because of restrictions we couldn’t travel,” said Pennock.
“So the boys have trained hard since then and have been fantastic all pre-season.
“Now we have to lower training times and days to get the balance right to start competitive for June,” added the Englishman.
Pennock revealed that there won’t be many changes to their 2019 title-winning squad.
They have also retained their trio of imports defender Charlie Clough, forward Andrei Varankou and goalkeeper Emerson Conceicao for this year’s campaign.
“The squad has been tinkered with a little bit but the majority of the squad is the same as the last two seasons,” said the 49-year-old.
“I’m looking to get younger players through if we can but they have to be good enough,” he concluded.
