SEA Games medallists feted at SPKS ceremony

THIRTY-SIX athletes were rewarded yesterday for their achievements at the 30th SEA Games in the Philippines through the Sports Excellence Incentive Reward Scheme (SPKS).

National wushu exponent Mohammad Adi Salihin Roslan was the biggest individual winner after bagging $10,000 for his gold medal in the men’s nandao/nangun combined event during a ceremony held at the Indoor Stadium in Berakas.

Adi won the gold after he managed 9.64 points in both his events to finish top of the podium at the World Trade Centre in the Philippines.

It was the Sultanate’s first gold since 2013 when the pair of Lee YingShi and Faustina Woo Wai Sii claimed the gold in the women’s duilian event in Myanmar.

The duo of Basma Lachkar and Hosea Wong Zheng Yu each took home $5,000 for winning one silver and one bronze medals - in their taijiquan and taijijian events respectively.

The pair of Majdurano Joel Majallah Sain and Mohammad Safiee Shayferan Roslan walked away with $1,500 each for their silver medal in the men’s duilian event.

National wushu coaches Li Hui and Zhao Chunjie received $3,600 each while assistant coach Ang Lu Guan got $900.

The Wushu Federation of Brunei Darussalam was awarded $3,600 putting the total at $34,700 for the sport.

The Royal Brunei Polo Association took home a sum of $14,700 for their gold and bronze medals at the biennial Games.

The team of HRH Prince Hj Jefri Bolkiah, YAM Pg Muda Abdul Qawi, captain Md Farid Abdullah, Pg Md Khairul Alimin Pg Hj Mohamad, Idris Sirat, Huzaimi Hj Mahari and Md Huzaimi Husin each received $1,000 for their gold medal in the Division B: 0-2 goals category.

HRH Prince 'Abdul Mateen, HRH Princess ‘Azemah Ni’matul Bolkiah, YAM Pg Muda Abdul Bahar, Hj Abdul Azeez Pehin Orang Kaya Lela Pahlawan Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Hj Mohd Jaafar together with Farid, Md Huzaimi and Huzaimi each got $500 for their bronze medal finish in the Division A: 4-6 goals category.

The Brunei Lawn Bowls Association received a total of $12,600 for their two silver medals at the biennial Games.

Each of the six athletes received $1,500 each while national lawn bowls coach Lokman Hj Mohd Salleh got $1,800.

Hjh Amalia Hj Metali and Esmawady Hj Ibrahim finished second in the women’s pairs while the team of Bahrin Abdul Rahman, Mohd Hazmi Hj Isdris, Hj Osman Hj Yahya and Hj Amli Hj Gafar won silver in the men’s fours event.

The national netball team - led by HRH Princess Fadzilah Lubabul Bolkiah - were awarded a total of $8,400 for their shared bronze medal while Karate and pencak silat grabbed $2,900 and $2,800 respectively.

Present to hand out the rewards was the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Hj Abidin.

Brunei’s haul of two gold, five silver and six bronze medals is only second to their outing in the 1999 edition, which they hosted and won four gold, 12 silver and 31 bronze medals.
