IT was a good start for Pegasus despite losing their first two games in the opening weekend of the Thailand Basketball Super League.
Brunei’s professional basketball team lost 76-58 to the Makabayan Warriors in their debut on Saturday.
They followed that with a 107-79 defeat at the hands of Dunkin’ Raptors the next day.
Pegasus coach Jade Padrigao felt that things will only get better and highlighted the positives.
“The local players had the feel of high level basketball. They got to gauge their basketball skills with other nations and experienced a very high level of basketball,” said Padrigao when contacted yesterday.
“There needs to be more maturity and tournaments since most of our locals haven’t experienced this type of competition yet but slowly they are getting their bearing.
“With more competition and continuation of the programme, there is no way to go for the team but up,” he added.
When asked on which of the local players stood out, Padrigao replied: “(Lim Liang) Wei and (Ahmad Ter)Mizi (Hj Noordeen) looked like they are comfortable in this type of league.
“But i think all locals have improved in their own little way since our training in Brunei,” he concluded.
Filipino import Patrick Cabahug is doing the bulk for the team with an average of 20 points and 10.5 rebounds per game.
Kel Hung is also having a good outing so far averaging 14 points and 9.5 rebounds through two matches.
Pegasus will be back in action this Saturday against Luang Prabang of Laos followed by a meeting against Singapore’s Adroit the next day.
