JCYS hang on to beat Kurapak

JCYS shrugged off a late charge by Kurapak for their first win in the BBA Youth Cup after an 87-77 victory last night.

Fourteen-year-old Nathan Chiew came up big for JCYS with 31 points - 13 of them coming in the fourth quarter - at the BBA court in Batu Bersurat.

Kho Shi An also had a good game with 14 points while Ho Ven Lee was the other in double figures with 10 to his name in the triumph.

On the other hand, Kurapak had distributed scoring with four players getting into double digit scoring.

Aiman Daniel had a team-high of 17 points while Michael Angelo notched 15. The pair of Rahimin Amin and Darryl Leong contributed 12 and 11 respectively to a losing cause.

JCYS had carried a 36-34 lead into halftime and stayed in front most of the way.

They extended their advantage to as large as 68-57 before Kurapak used their full court press for a 7-0.

They got to within one point at 74-73 after a three-pointer by Angelo with just under four minutes to play.

JCYS took a timeout and went on a 9-0 run in the next one and half minutes with Chiew netting five of them.

Rahimin ended the drought with a basket with two minutes left in regulation but it was simply not enough to see Kurapak fall to their second defeat.

Over in the second game, Setia Warriors came back from 13 points down at halftime to edge TSK 97-96 for their third straight win.

William Ching topscored for Setia Warriors with 30 points, which included six treys. Jonathan Lim poured in 25 points while Kon Yee Hung added 20 in the triumph.

On the other hand, Maverick Raphael produced a game-high of 37 points to pace TSK.

The pair of John Earl and Francis Juelar scored 16 points each while Ivan Samuel chipped in 11 in a losing effort.

Setia Warriors finally got back in front with just over 40 seconds left in the game after a quick outlet off a defensive rebound to see Ching score on the break.

They then ensured themselves of victory by putting up a defensive stop at the other end.

The six-team competition resumes today with Kurapak taking on Wolves at 7pm.

The second game pits Highbeingbn against TSK at 8.30pm.
