IT was a SEA Games debut to remember for pencak silat athlete Anisah Najihah Abdullah after she finished third out of eight competitors in the women’s seni tunggal event in the Philippines this morning.

The 22-year-old tallied 451 points to win the bronze medal at the Subic Bay Exhibition and Convention Centre.

Puspa Arum Sari of Indonesia placed at the top of the podium with her score of 467 points while Filipino Mary Francine Padios followed in the runner-up spot with 454 points.

Anisah was pleased with her showing and never expected a podium finish.

“As promised I performed my very best and I am quite satisfied with my performance eventhough I have injuries that affected little movements during the performance,” said Anisah in an interview with BruSports News today.

“I didn’t think that I would be one of the podium finishers because all the other competitors were world class athletes and I only targeted to be in the top-five,” she added.

“I also want to thank everyone who supported me and thank you to my mom and dad, coaches, teammates and friends, who are my main support system.

“I also want to thank JBS (Department of Youth and Sports) for this opportunity. It means a lot to me,” concluded Anisah, who also won the bronze medal during the pre-SEA Games event in October.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Isyraq Zulfadli was stopped in his tracks in the second round of the Class B (50-55kg) tanding event after losing to his Filipino opponent.
