LEON KWEK shot the lights out for a 41-point performance to power YTE to a 115-94 win over FZ-Juramas in the YOU.C1000 Cup Phase 2 last night.
The Singapore national cager shot 7-10 from three-point territory to send FZ-Juramas to their first defeat in the competition.
“I am just feeling good with my shots today (Sunday night), so I took advantage of it and definitely was glad to help the team win and build momentum for tomorrow’s game,” said Kwek in an interview with BruSports News after the win.
“Definitely I have to give credit to Jai Reyes for hitting me with the assists when I am open and managed to capitalise on those open shots,” he added.
Reyes finished with a strong double-double with 15 points and 14 assists including hitting four from behind the arc.
Eric Palanca contributed 18 points while Elvin Requintin was the other that got into double figure scoring with 13 points in the win at the BBA court in Batu Bersurat.
On the other hand, Allan Mangahas topscored for FZ-Juramas with 24 points while Mark Acosta poured in 22.
Francis Barcellano was also in double figures with 16 in a losing effort.
Both sides were dependent on their outside shooting in the opening period with YTE holding a slight advantage at 28-22 going into the second quarter.
It was then when they outscored their opponents 35-22 in the 10-minute frame to see the lead balloon to 63-44 at halftime.
Kwek had already notched 29 points, going 11-15 from the field including six triples to his name, at the interval.
YTE led by over 20 points most of the third period and FZ-Juramas simply had no answer as they fell to their first loss in two games.
The earlier game saw Easyway start their campaign wtih a 74-59 win over Systematic Living.
The competition continues today with Setia Builders taking on Systematic Living at 7.15pm.
The second game pits Easyway against YTE at 9pm.
