IT was a good outing for Brunei’s Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) practitioners after they returned home from the Kota Kinabalu International BJJ and Nogi Championship 2019 last weekend with a total of nine gold, six silver and six bronze medals.
The 21 competitors from Brunei, representing Khalifa MMA (15), The Refinery (5) and Wolfpack (1), competed at the 2-day event held at the Likas Sports Complex.
Fuzzzers, the Khalifa MMA ladies coach, was pleased with the camaraderie shown by the athletes and highlighted the increase of female competitors from the country.
“It was heartwarming to see the close bond between our competitors who supported each other by helping warm up and cheer each other on despite hailing from different gyms,” said Fuzzzers in a press release.
“This is the biggest number of female competitors from Brunei signifying the success of JiujiteiraBN’s movement - building the BJJ sisterhood and empowering women through BJJ,” she added.
Next on the calendar for the Brunei BJJ athletes are the IBJJF Asian Open in Tokyo from September 13-15 and the Copa de Borneo to be held in KK from October 12-13
