DEFENDING Champions YTE started their title defence with a 100-46 thrashing of Yuniku in Group A of the YOU.C1000 Cup tonight.
YTE had distributed scoring with five players getting in double figures. Ting Heng Lee (pic) was the topscorer with a game-high of 18 points, including four treys.
Elvin Requintin poured in 14 points while Fitz Ruiz Macasero added 13. The duo of Lim Liang Wei and Eric Palanca notched 12 and 10 respectively in the win at the BBA court in Batu Bersurat.
On the other hand, Tan Ye Wei was the only player in double digit scoring for Yuniku with 11 to his name.
It was evident where the game was headed as YTE were superior in every department against their opponents.
They put up a good defensive display and held Yuniku to only one field goal in over minutes in the opening period.
The defending champions quickly jumped out to a double figure lead and Yuniku connected on their last two attempts of the period to close to within 23-10.
It was the first game in charge for YTE coach Federico Samson as he tried out different lineups.
It was more one way traffic and Yuniku simply had no answer as the lead balloon to 53-23 at halftime enroute to the blowout.
The second game saw YTE Basketball bounce back with a 105-94 victory over Bengkurong Brotherhood in Group B.
The competition continues tomorrow with Easyway taking on Systematic Living in Group B at 7.15pm.
A matchup between YTE and Setia Builders will follow right after at 9pm.
