THE YOU.C1000 Basketball Cup (popularly known as the Sultan’s Cup) is set to tip off on August 9 following a sponsorship ceremony yesterday at the BBA Court in Batu Bersurat.
YOU.C1000, the title sponsors and official sports drink for the competition, was represented by the manager of Hui Huang Enterprise, Katherine Hii (L).
A mock cheque of $10,000 was presented to Alex Kwang (C), the BBA chairman and a total of 80 cartons of YOU.C1000 sports drinks were also handed over.
The month-long tournament, which is held in conjunction with His Majesty’s 73rd Birthday celebrations, will feature two phases with the first made up only of Brunei residents with valid identity cards.
At least four teams will then be invited to compete in the second phase - which will allow teams to field two imports (players without Brunei Identity cards).
A total of 10 teams separated into two groups will vie for top honours in this year’s edition.
Defending champions YTE are in Group A together with Fitness Zone - Juramas, Setia Builders, Yuniku and Moldex Realty.
TK Tea House, Easyway, Systematic Living, Bengkurong Brotherhood and YTE B are drawn in Group B.
YTE won the competition for the first time last year after edging Fuzhou Shiyyi Association 80-77 in the final.
