DPMM FC coach Adrian Pennock was pleased to watch his side fend off the previously unbeaten Tampines Rovers FC in the Singapore Premier League on Sunday night.
The Brunei side carved out a 2-1 victory at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium to go level with the Stags on 10 points at the top of the table but with a game in hand.
Pennock felt that it was their toughest test yet and credited his charges for picking up all three points.
“We know they (Tampines) are a good side and they are the best team I have seen this season, “said Pennock in an interview with BruSports News after the triumph.
“We scored two fantastic goals and I thought they were very special. Our shape, commitment and work rate were very good.
“Maybe we should have made that little extra pass instead of going long early in the first half. That was all I said at halftime really,” he added.
“When you go 2-0 up and concede with 10 minutes to go, obviously it lifts them and deflates us a little bit.
“But we kept in there and worked very hard, kept the shape and got a very good three points,” he continued.
The hosts grabbed the lead in first half added time with Andrei Varankou finishing off a move he started.
He had played the ball wide to Azizi Ali Rahman before the latter whipped in a cross for the Belarusian to fire home at the far post.
DPMM FC doubled their advantage on the hour mark with Azwan Ali Rahman playing a good one-two with Varankou to fire past Syazwan Buhari in between the Tampines sticks.
The Stags were handed a lifeline in the 84th minute after substitute Khairul Amri fired a superb strike past the out stretch arm of Wardun Yussof - the first goal the club have conceded this season.
DPMM FC will be back in action this Saturday as they travel to face Balestier Khalsa FC at the Bishan Stadium.
