YTE import Udun Osakue was named back-to-back MVP in the YOU.C1000 Cup but felt that his teammate Lim Aik Hock deserves the award this time around.
The latter made a big impact late in their 80-77 victory over Fuzhou Shiyyi Association last night with big defensive plays down the stretch to force turnovers off their opponents to secure the win.
“The MVP this year, I can’t take credit for it because Efu (Lim) had huge steals,” said Osakue after the triumph.
“I feel he should be the MVP and he is a really good local (player).
“Terrell (Carter II) carried us all day. It was more than me and I feel they played a bigger role than I did. I’m grateful for the MVP but this is a team award,” he added.
Osakue had won the award almost exactly a year ago after leading Juramas to a 113-99 win over Easyway in last year’s final where Lim was also a big factor in that win after shutting down Avery Scharer for the encounter.
The momentum had shifted in favour of Fuzhou when they outscored YTE 27-9 in the third quarter to go in front 60-56 heading into the decisive frame.
But YTE kept it together for a strong comeback and when asked about how they did it, Osakue replied: “I think we lost our composure a bit because of the refs and (slippery) floor.
“But we regained it as our vocal leader Terrell got us back together.
“He kept the team going, kept us together and level headed. Big ups to him and he deserves a lot of credit for that,” he concluded.
