THE highly anticipated YOU.C1000 Basketball Cup (widely known as the Sultan’s Cup) is all set to tip off this Saturday after a sponsorship handing over ceremony was held earlier today at the BBA court in Batu Bersurat.
YOU.C1000, who are the title sponsors and the official sports drink for the annual tournament this year, was represented by the manager of Hui Huang Enterprise, Katherine Hii.
She presented a mock cheque of $10,000 to Samuel Jong, the organising chairman of the competition.
In addition, a total of 64 cartons of YOU.C1000 sports drinks were also handed over.
YOU.C1000 Cup to feature 9 teams
NINE teams will be competing for top honours in the YOU.C1000 Cup this year.
Group A comprise of YTE Basketball, Tutong Basketball, Teo & Son, Cleanwash Laundry and Menglait Basketball Club.
On the other hand, Ceramic Pro Brunei, Walltique, Easyway and Fuzhou Shiyyi Association make up Group B.
The winner will walk away with a cash prize of $2000 coupled with trophy and medals. The runners-up with get half the amount while third place will win $500.
The first game will see Tutong Basketball take on Cleanwash Laundry at 6.30pm.
The opening ceremony will take place at 8.15pm before a matchup between Teo & Son and YTE Basketball right after.
An all-star game, three-point shootout and slam dunk competition are slated for July 29 just before the quarter-finals begin on July 31.
The final is scheduled to be held on August 5.
Juramas stunned Easyway 113-99 to win the MK Group Cup last year.
Despite the defending champions not contesting this year, reigning MVP Udun Osakue returns for this third straight stint and will lace up for YTE Basketball.
