WOLVES came from behind to edge Modesto 66-62 in the opener of the Chau & Lava Media Under-16 Basketball Tournament today.
Captain Lau Chong Hung topscored for Wolves with 21 points while Mohd Francis added 17. Miguel Molina was the other in double figures with 11 to his name in the victory at the BBA court in Batu Bersurat.
On the other hand, Ralph Borja produced a game-high of 23 points to pace Modesto while Michael Sii chipped in 11 points to a losing cause.
Modesto were up by six points late in the encounter before Wolves put up full court pressure defence to force turnovers off their opponents to claw their way back to tie the game at 61-61.
Modesto failed to get back in front after Chuang Wai Chee missed two free-throws.
In turn, Lau knocked down a 15-foot jumper at the other end to give Wolves the lead with a minute left.
Chuang then made it a one point after after splitting his charities with 15 seconds to go.
To make matters worse, Modesto were whistled for an unsportsmanlike foul off the ball on the inbounds play to send Mguel Molina to the line.
He too split his charities but Modesto fouled Francis straight away on the next play to stop the clock.
He knocked down one and off the defensive rebound Modesto had a chance to tie the game as Borja dribbled down the floor quickly before taking a contested three but just missed the mark.
Maverick Pineda was then fouled to allow him to ice the game from the line.
The second game saw Young Blood put up a dominant performance to crush ProCon 125-33.
Young Blood scored the first 13 points in the encounter and never let up at the defensive end.
ProCon were trying to catch their breath but soon fell behind 39-11 going into the second period.
It was more one way street in the second frame as Young Blood continued to put up points on the scoreboard without reply to cruise to victory.
Meanwhile, Underdogs were also victorious after an 85-45 triumph over 2Hype.
