SOME big changes are set to be made to the S.League next season.
This was revealed during a meeting between FAS (Football Association of Singapore) deputy president and S.League club chairmen at the Jalan Besar Stadium in Singapore on Tuesday night.
Here are a list of some of the changes set to take place:-
- Foreign import quota will be cut from three to two, with one player under the age of 21.
- For the six local Singapore clubs (Balestier Khalsa FC, Geylang International FC, Home United FC, Hougang United FC, Tampines Rovers FC and Warriors FC), at least six players on the squad have to be under 23 years old. Three of them will have to be fielded in the starting line-up for league matches.
- The new season will kick off at the end of March and run till the end of October before November’s AFF Suzuki Cup.
- Due to fixture congestion, the Singapore League Cup, which is normally held in June, will be dropped for at least one season.
- League matches during weekends will kick off at 5.30pm.
- The yo-yo test will replace the 2.4km test. The yo-yo test is a multi-stage shuttle run that gauges anaerobic fitness, which is more relevant to a footballer.
All nine current teams will continue to participate next season.
The full list of changes to the 2018 S.League season is expected to be announced tomorrow.
