THE national lawn bowls team had a successful outing at the 29th SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur after delivering three silver and one bronze medals.
Malaysia were the overall winners of the lawn bowls tournament bagging seven of the eight gold medals on offer while the Philippines finished on top of the podium in the men's fours event to prevent the hosts from getting a clean sweep.
The Sultanate had their first podium finish from the men’s triples event after the trio of Hj Naim Brahim, Pg Hj Tengah Pg Hj Tejudin and Ampian Ahad Ampuan Kasim won silver after falling 19-9 to Malaysia on Friday.
The team of Hjh Ajijah Muntol, Norafizah Matossen and Suhana Md Daud added a bronze medal after beating Thailand 15-10 on the same day.
The team delivered their second silver medal yesterday after Dk Nurul Nabilah Pg Md Salleh Chuchu and Esmawandy Brahim fell 17-10 to Malaysia in the final of the women’s pairs event.
The other silver medal came earlier today from the women’s singles event after Amaliah Matali slipped to a 21-12 loss to Malaysia’s Emma Firyana Saroji in the final.
Brunei came close to adding two other bronze medals from the men’s fours and singles events.
They lost 17-14 in the third-place playoff of the former on Thursday before Abd Rahman Hj Omar was edged 21-20 by Elmer Abatayo of the Philippines this morning.
Brunei are currently 10th in the 11-country standings with their haul of four silver and seven bronze medals.
Wushu exponent Basma Lachkar had won Brunei’s first silver medal at the Aug 19-30 Games from the women’s taijiquan event Wednesday.
The other bronze medals were from sepak takraw (3), netball, karate and wushu.
