“No one can fight alone…” said Richard Lim and Izzat Azmi, the co-owners of the new mixed martial art (MMA) gym Wolfpack.
“The strength of the pack is the wolf, and the strength of the wolf is the pack” by Kipling expresses that an individual gains just as much from the group as the group gains from the individuals.
“We believe in doing things together to achieve something better and that is how things roll at the Wolfpack,” continued Izzat.
“We must help each other in whatever we do and with that kind mentality we will be strong and indestructible as a group (pack).
“Just like the wolves…they work stronger together in a pack,” he added.
The first of its kind to open in Tutong, Wolfpack is the latest gym in the country to come on board in one of the fastest growing sports in the world, ‘MMA’.
Located at Simpang 61, Ground Floor Unit 3, Block A, Bangunan Seri Petani Jaya in Kampong Sengkarai, just alongside the Tutong Highway, the gym is just half an hour’s drive from both Bandar Seri Begawan and Kuala Belait.
Just like any other MMA gym all over the world, Wolfpack offers both standing and ground fighting classes such as Boxing, Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) and No-gi wrestling to cater for martial arts enthusiasts.
The club offers beginners and advance sessions for everyone and also accommodates to private training and classes for health and recreational purposes.
Born and raised in Tutong, Izzat and Richard have always wanted to get the youth to be involved in sport activities and to live a healthy lifestyle.
They saw the need for the youth in the district to have an outlet to express their hidden talents and gifts.
"Growing up in Tutong, we all know that there is nothing much here for us (youth) to do. We need to drive all the way to Bandar to get involved in sports and recreational activities," said Richard.
"The idea to open a MMA gym came only in February and everything just kind of fell into place… we never looked back and started in April to get things rolling," he added.
Wolfpack is an affiliated member to the most successful MMA club in the country, the Busiido MMA Club, located in Bandar Seri Begawan.
The affiliation sees athletes from Busiido MMA Club often visiting the club to help out and run classes.
"We are lucky to have this kind of support from the best MMA gym in the country and I would like to thank Eazy Anuar, the head coach of Busiido especially, for their help," said Izzat.
The club is now run by manager Muhammad Adib Pehin Sulaiman, better known as ‘Deep’, a Busiido BJJ blue belt and multiple winner of regional BJJ and MMA tournaments in Malaysia and Philippines.
