THE Match Coordination Meeting for next week's National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD) Under-16 Elite Youth Cup was held yesterday to discuss the finalisation of players and conduct the tournament’s draw.
Held at the NFABD House in Berakas, the team managers also coordinated with each other on kit colours and other competition matters.
Tabuan A and Projek Ikan Pusu (PIP) were the top-two seeded teams by virtue of their positions in the NFABD Under-16 Youth League.
Both were placed in Pot A to ensure they would not meet each other in group stage play.
Rimba Star and Bang Dalam FC, who are third and fourth respectively in the NFABD Under-16 Youth League, were placed in Pot B.
Tabuan A were drawn in Group A with Bang Dalam, Tabuan B, Kilanas FC and non-league side Murai Jr FC.
On the other hand, PIP, Rimba Star, BTC Red Star, Besa FC, Tabuan C and Parma Jr FC make up Group B.
The 11-team tournament will kick off on April 28 and is expected to conclude on July 29.
Group stage games will be held at the NFABD House’s Artificial Turf, Sg Kebun Sports Complex Field A and B and Bengkurong Community Field.
The semi-finals and final will be contested at the Berakas Sports Complex and Balapan Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex.
NFABD hopes the competition will help unearth new talent for the country’s age group teams.
“The best players will be brought into Tabuan A, B and C – so I hope that all players can show good performances and improve as the tournament progresses,” said NFABD Acting Competition Director Hj Md Noor Hj Hamid in a press statement.
“Commitment is very important to develop grassroots football, and grassroots football is very important,” he added.
