THE 7th NBT Trophy Sepak Takraw tournament kicked off yesterday with 16 teams vying for top honours at the Multipurpose Hall of the Menglait Sports Complex.
Contested in the knockout format, teams for tomorrow’s quarter-finals starting at 8am have already been determined.
The Royal Brunei Police Force Sports Council (MS PDB) A defeated Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council (MS ABDB) A 21-15, 21-14 for a last-eight berth.
The win sets them up set up against Team 88 B, who dispatched Sengkurong A 21-11, 21-18.
Pelangi also advanced to the quarter-finals after beating Brunei Darussalam Sports School Council (MSSSBD) A 21-10, 21-17.
They will next face Sengkurong B who defeated MSSSBD C 21-11, 21-12.
Team 88 A will face off against Team 88 C. The former beat MS PDB C 21-16, 21-13 while the latter triumphed 21-5, 21-11 over Merangking.
MSSSBD B and Sengkurong D will battle in the other quarter-final matchup.
The latter had to work for a 21-10, 21-17, 21-18 comeback victory over MS ABDB B to secure their berth.
The final is scheduled for 3pm.
Present as the guest of honour to officiate at the event was Pg Nazrul Arif Pg Dato Paduka Hj Md Zain, the Assistant Director of Administration and Services at the Ministry of Education.
