DST Super League and DST FA Cup defending champions Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council (MS ABDB) will kick-off their season with a DST Sumbangsih Cup (Charity Shield) clash against Indera Sports Club (Indera SC) on Wednesday.
The DST Super League curtain-raiser will be held at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas at 8.15pm, with both teams looking to win the trophy for the second time.
MS ABDB coach Sgt Hj Mesli Hj Dullah is expecting a tough challenge from Indera SC this season.
“Indera SC is a very good team and everyone knows that…they will be challenging us all the way.” Hj Mesli told the BruSports after the press conference at the NFABD House yesterday.
“Preparation has been good… we started training in February and we got a number of new players coming in and some senior players are still in the squad too.
“This game on Wednesday will help us to see how the new season will play out and how well our team has gelled,” he added.
MS ABDB won the DST Super League for the second time in a row last year and also claimed the DST FA Cup for the fifth consecutive time.
Indera finished second in the DST Super League, earning them the right to meet MS ABDB in the DST Charity Shield.
“Our training has not been as good as MS ABDB because of time and field restraints,” said Indera SC coach Mohd Yussaini Hj Said
“MS ABDB are a strong competitor and we will make the necessary steps and play with the right tactics to give MS ABDB a tough fight,” he added.
Hj Mohd Noor Hj Hamid, the NFABD Acting Competition Director is hoping that this year’s DST Super League season will be able to unearth new footballing talents.
“We want to see more action this year and the most exciting thing is to see new emerging talents from each club in the top league this year,” he said.
“We also hope everything will run smoothly for us until the end of this year in running this tournament,” added the Acting Competition Director.
