Maizurah missed out on podium finish at Philippine Open

MAIZURAH Abdul Rahim missed out on a podium finish at the recently concluded 2017 Philippine National Open Invitational Athletics Championships after placing fourth in the girls’ heptathlon event.

The Rio Olympian amassed a total of 2443 points to finish 16 points behind bronze medallist Rybylen Valencia at the City of Ilagan Sports Complex, Isabela.

Singapore’s Hannah Tan won the gold medal with 3081 points followed by Laila Tuliao with 2593 points.

Over in the men’s discus throw event, Md Adenin Bolhan was sixth after producing a distance of 37.59 metres.

Albert Mantuan won the gold with his throw of 45.83m while Regan Contic claimed second on 41.46m.

Amiel Ferrera bagged the bronze medal with a 40.96m attempt.

Md Efwan Asmalee managed to make it into the semi-finals of the boys’ 800m event after crossing the line with a time of 2:28.82.

He went faster clocking 2:26.01 in the semi-finals but it was not enough for him to qualify for the final.

Ak Muhd Hazim Harith Pg Fadzil was the other Bruneian who competed at the March 30 - April 2 competition and he clocked a time of 57.07 seconds in the boys’ 400m event.

Meanwhile, national athletics coach Fidel Gallenero also took to the tracks to win a gold medal.

The Filipino competed in the Masters (40-44 years old) 100m event crossing the line with a time of 12.41s to defeat three other competitors.
