INSTITUTES of Higher Education (IPT) emerged champions of the 3rd Brunei Darussalam National Games (SKBD) 2017 Futsal Tournament after beating favourites Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council (MS ABDB) 5-3 in a thrilling final last night.
L/Kpl Zairul Hazmin got MS ABDB infront early in the 11th minute but IPT replied just a minute later through Ak Mohd Azizul at the Indoor Stadium of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas.
The real action began in the second half when both teams were exchanging attacks pressing forward to look for the winner.
IPT defended very well and the armymen could not find a way through resorting to firing their shots from outside to try their luck.
Mohd Fadhillah Mohd Azri put IPT ahead in the 26th minute for the first time following a swift counter attack that saw him through for a simple tap in.
Muhd Ulfi scored two goals in a space of two minutes to increase IPT’s lead to three goals before L/Kpl Zairul replied to keep MS ABDB in the game at 4-2.
Md Farhan Abdul Rahman made it 5-2 just a minute later before Lt Nazmi Shaminan scored the consolation in the final minute.
Belait bagged the bronze in the tournament beating Brunei-Muara 8-5 in the third place play-off on Monday.
The other teams who competed in the competition were Royal Brunei Airlines, Combined Telecommunications Companies, Temburong District, Royal Brunei Police Force Sports Council (MS PDB), Tutong District and Brunei Shell Joint Venture Company.
