DPMM FC’s latest signing Zeljko Savic is already enjoying his time in the Sultanate despite having only arrived a week ago.

The Brunei side signed the Serbian centre-back on Thursday to replace the injured Francois Marque, who picked up the injury just half an hour into their opening match against Home United FC on March 3, for the rest of their S.League campaign.

“It has only been a couple of days. The weather is different from Europe but as long as I'm on the field, everything is the same,” said Savic in an interview with BruSports yesterday.

“I feel good on the field training for upcoming games. The guys are great and we have a strong team. I’m looking forward everyday to come for training.

“About Brunei, I’ve only seen a little bit. Jerudong Park looks amazing and the country is very clean,” added the 29-year-old, when met after a training session at the Jerudong Mini Stadium.

Savic made his debut in 2006 with FK Omladinac Novi Banovci in Serbia, spending six years there.

He then moved to Finland in 2012 to play for FK Indija before joining SJK two years later where they won the Veikkauliiga title (Finland’s top tier football league) in 2016.

Savic laced up for PS Kemi last year before finding his way to Southeast Asia.

When asked on the differences of playing here, Savic replied: “We are playing three at the back. In Europe a lot of teams are trying to change to that formation.

“We have a very good coach (Steve Kean) and the team is keeping up with the latest systems.

“In Europe everything is more about tactics but here I can enjoy and play. From the first training, I felt I want to play more and more,” he added.

“That is the most important in this business - to enjoy everyday on field and of course to maintain discipline. Also all the guys on the team are good,” concluded the Serbian.

Savic is set to make his DPMM FC debut when they resume their campaign this Sunday against Hougang United FC at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas.

The 2015 S.League champions are still in search of their first win of the season after dropping their opening two games - conceding five and scoring one.
