FITNESS Zone and Shooting Stars Brunei will be organising two sports camps during the first term school holidays later this month.
The SCA Nike Basketball Camp and SCA Nike Phizz Kids Multi Sport Camp will be held at the Multipurpose Hall of Fitness Zone, Kiulap.
The former, which is open to kids aged 6-21 years old, is scheduled for March 27-29 and will run from 9am - 5pm.
On the other hand, the SCA Nike Phizz Kids Multi Sport Camp is open to kids aged 5-14 years old will follow the next two days from 9am - 12pm.
Apart from sports, the participants will also get to learn living skills such as cooking by Energy Kitchen.
Wu Chun, the managing director of Fitness Zone, felt that this was a good way to give back to the country in the form of sports development.
“Being an avid sports fan and having played basketball (who represented Brunei), I know how difficult it is for young players, especially Bruneians to be given the right exposure and opportunity to learn from the best,” said Wu Chun as quoted on a press release.
“During my time, I was not privileged with such opportunities. As such, it is my ambition and goal to ensure that future Bruneian sports boys and girls are given this opportunity.
“This is my contribution for the development of sports in Brunei. These camps are are not only for the competitive athletes. They are also designed to cater for beginners, who are keen to pick up the sport and make new friends,” he added.
“Apart from learning their favourite sport, indirectly by participating in these camps, they are changing their lifestyle to an active one.
“Picking up sport at a young age will translate to a habit as they grow older. Being active or playing a sport has to become a habit for us to stay active as we get older and it should be a hobby,” continued Wu Chun.
Shooting Stars Brunei coach Ryan Yusof is looking forward to host the kids during the camps.
“We are excited to be part of the upcoming camps. It is our vision to inspire our kids and to be the place where we provide a safe and welcoming bully free environment for children where they learn to be healthy in body and mind,” said Ryan, who coached semi-professional basketball team Beruang Blazers in the Yuwang EBL basketball league last season.
“In the process, the children will learn self discipline, teamwork and integrity.
“We as local coaches are always looking to learn best practices and concepts from other coaches and excited to be part of this Nike camp to give more back to the kids which is the reason why we do what we do,” he concluded.
