BRUNEI is represented by seven fencers at the inaugural ASEAN University Fencing Championship 2017 in Malaysia.
The fencers are contesting under their respective institutions of higher learning - Kemuda Institute, Cosmopolitan College, IBTE School of Business and IBTE Sultan Saiful Rijal Campus - at March 9-12 tournament held at the Nilai University.
According to a press release, this is part of the continuous effort by the Brunei Darussalam Fencing Federation (BDFF) to provide exposure to the athletes in preparations for future tournaments.
“This is a very good competition for us to give the athletes more experience especially to the SEA Games candidates who may be competing in August this year,” said Captain (U) Nashriq Moksin, the secretary general of BDFF.
“On top of that, the competition will give more pride for the fencers to represent their own institutions.
“We want the athletes to be successful in both sport and their studies to achieve their ambitions,” he added.
The individual men’s sabre and women’s foil events will be contested today.
